Project Description
IronGate was designed to create a strong sense of place and a welcoming gateway to the existing Neighborhood of Eton Street Station in Birmingham, Michigan. The exterior design is inspired by the architecture of the railroad era with its time honored architectural proportions and detailing combined with durable brick and iron materials. Each of IronGate’s residences feature spacious open floor plans allowing the ground level to be utilized as a creative workspace or retail space with frontage on a generously landscaped park.
The design challenge was to create a building that could function as a residential rental property until such time as the Live-Work lifestyle became more marketable. After much collaboration and refinement, the final solution was to create large, open-plan ground floor levels with high-end modern finishes that could be used for both work and living and provide a variety of private places of retreat on the upper level. The upper level features generous bedroom suites each with their own sitting areas, balconies and bathrooms. The two end units were most likely to support a work space because of their corner location at the entry points of the neighborhood. These corner Live-Work residences were designed as three story units with the flex-space on the ground floor used either as all work space or extra living/recreation space. A generous living room, dining, kitchen, and master suite are located all on the second floor with three additional bedrooms and a large bathroom located in the attic story.
