Project Description
At the heart of the Peninsula Neighborhood a grouping of Live-Work townhouses features a small bistro and wine bar that overlooks the neighborhoods main square. The exterior design of the overall building is inspired by the simple federal style buildings of downtown Iowa City with red brick and dark color architectural details.
The design challenge was to create a building that presented three facades to the streets and public space, accommodated the irregular shaped site, and met the requirements of the Peninsula Neighborhood Form Based Urban Code. After several years of design collaboration and refinement with the municipality, marketing consultants, developer, and builder, the final design solution broke ground in 2014 and the bistro opened in the summer of 2015. The Live-Work building features four units each with their own unique floor plans. A bistro and wine bar, a coffee and baked goods shop, and two office spaces, each with an attached private garage and multi-level living space above the work space.
